I have always enjoyed working with them as they take pride in their work, are skilled and committed, and yet they often win work on competitive tender. When required, they produce full fabrication drawings and for several of the structures mentioned above these were unusually demanding, requiring several cycles of site measurement, drawing and comment before fabrication could begin. As a rule, their steelwork then fits as precisely as intended and, on the rare occasion when it has not, they have remedied it with no fuss or delay. On the 3 occasions when I recall having made a mistake myself, again they have put it right as soon as they possibly could and not sought to exploit the situation financially. When their work has increased above that tendered, I have found that their claims for additional payment are reasonable and based on the costs they actually incurred, rather than what they might be able to persuade someone to pay.
I first worked with Playle Engineering (PEC) in 1984. Since then, we have engaged them on most of our jobs where steelwork is called for, often by competitive tender but also by direct negotiation as preferred subcontractors.
We have found that their prices are competitive, that they complete work on time and, above all, that their work is of a consistently high quality. They are easily able to cope with the complex geometries, and the tricky, demanding details that we sometimes present them with. They have always been very prompt, willing and able to help with the resolution of those bothersome difficulties that are sometimes encountered on site.
I have no hesitation in commending them for the quality of their work, their service and their commitment to getting things right.
